What is the name of your state? CA
I work for a small optometry office. My employer faxed a refusal of coverage form and said that he needed it back the same day. Am I not entitled to a period of time in which to decide on taking benefits or not. Furthermore, when I inquired about the actual coverage, I was told that my recent pay increase will be "re-evaluated". He was clearly implying that my measly wages would be reduced because he would be paying for some of the coverage. Can he do that?

No.

As long as you are receiving minimum wage and any pay change is not made retroactive, yes.

There is no law that requires them to give you any time to decide about your benefits. They can give you the application forms and tell you, you have five minutes to complete them if they want to.

It's possible that what he's referring to is the pre-tax option for your premium, which does lower your taxable wages. It's actually a benefit to both you and him.
