Colorado...Hello, I sent a payment to a foot-doctor for $15. They refused the check I mailed and said they will only accept a minimun payment of $50. I have heard if someone refuses your payment, the debt is cleared. Is this true?

The answer to your question is no. No creditor is obligated to accept a less than agreed upon payment.

Okay that makes sense.

BUT...

There was no agreement made as to the amount that would be sent. All we asked is that may we make monthly payments and they said yes. We did not say how much we would send and they didn't tell us a minimum.

I'm sure when you asked if you could make payments the Dr's office thought you might mean $50 a month or something, not $15. A medical provider typically will not hold onto an unpaid account for more than 90 days before going to collections. They simply won't finance you for that long. Every doctor's office has a sign or notice somewhere that payment is due when services are rendered, letting you make payments is a courtesy. How long would it have taken you to pay off the bill if all you sent was $15 a month ???
