hi everyone,

At the end of 2015 near christmas i was wanting to build myself a new gaming setup, get a new monitor etc and get a knife for myself on CS:GO since I am a competitive gamer.

A friend I have spoken to online on steam for a few months and played some games with said he could help me build my new setup etc as he understood i was at uni and couldnt afford it

He sent me money on paypal from people that claimed money was owed to him from so I accepted the 4 payments of £150, bought all my gear and was more than happy.

However, it seemed that all the files were getting charged back on unauthorised activity claims and i started panicing, i tried to contact him to let him know this was happening and I couldnt get ahold of him at all... it looked like he had completely blocked me. Obviously im panicing.

2 weeks later all the claims come through and I get a negative balance of this amount around -600. Im panicing here as ive spent the money and couldnt afford to redo my balance so I just stupidly left it and didnt know what to do.

A couple of weeks ago, I get a claim company come through asking for the balance so I called them up and arranged a payment plan with them to repay this debt. I realised that this guy was a scammer and had completetly done me over and somehow access accounts this way or they were in on it???

Can i honestly get in any trouble if im repaying off this debt with the DCA? I made sure with paypal the payments would be deducted off my balance.

I dont want to start emailing paypal letting them know what happened as I dont want to get into a legal mess and I realise that I need to pay off the negative balance. If I pay it off will the whole situation just go away?

I live with my parents (20 years old) doing a university degree and have never had an issue with the law or anything im completely clean.

As long as you are making payments to the appropriate people and they accept that you are good with them, that does not mean they will not protect themselves by keeping an open Paypal dispute until you pay.
