I recently started developing a web site that offers services that resemble www.pcshowandtell.com. My question is this; if we develop screen shots of applications (Microsoft Office 2000 etc.) are we required to pay royalties to Microsoft? I’ve read all the legal notices provided by pcshowandtell but there is no indication of copyright laws or royalties being paid to any software vendor. Our company is based in Virginia.

No. The information would be considered editorial in nature. Also, the person that produces the information using Microsoft software owns the end result and may show the result at they see fit.
