What is the name of your state? michigan - i have been in business 7 years. i changed banks last july, '02. last month i had my first bounced check from a customer. they were very apologetic & immediately sent out a replacement from another account. my dilemma: since the deposit was made with my business atm/debit card, the bank immediately cancelled the card. my local bank mgr was surprised with the bank's action and when she called corporate was told of the deposit protection policy they have which automatically takes this action. note that my account was not overdrawn by this bounced $800 check. i have been forced to apply for a new debit card, which they were happy to give me for a $5 processing fee. now, while i'm waiting for a new card i have encountered other problems. i have automatic billing set up thru this card and since the old number was cancelled, the bank is refusing payments. (i don't have the new number yet) i use an internet fax company for my business faxing needs. they have suspended my fax priveleges due to refusal of payment. i am losing possible business and can't deal with my customers or vendors via fax. i have other billings coming thru that will probably cause similar issues. this has all taken place in the last two weeks. my question is: can a bank penalize me in this fashion for something that is totally out of my control? (how do i know if a customer's check will bounce without submitting it?)
