What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Mississippi

I have a website where I would like to post videos of music lessons.

I understand that I must have a BMI license and file reports as to what songs I have posted on the site as well as to pay fees to them for pageviews and/or a percentage of the income I receive from the website but must I also contact the publishers of the songs and get permission and pay them a fee?

No, you wouldn't have to contact the publisher of the music, only the current copyright holder and licensor must be compensated. In the case you've described, that party would be BMI. Since it sounds like you already worked out this part, you should be fine.
