I've been making slideshow presentations of old photos and transferring them to video for family and freinds.
It's always much better to put music on the background. Something appropiate for the photos. (Those were the days. Memories. That sort of thing.)

If I were to start this as a possible business venture, would I be able to use any song from my music collection? They are mostly CDs that I've purchased.

I figure that it's not as if I'm selling the song, just the slideshow video and the music is background.

Any info. would be greatly appreciated.

What you propose is illegal. There are many threads below dealing with music copyright issues. Look at them for answers.

How about...

If I perform the song myself with acoustic guitar and specify who wrote the song. I know cover versions are done all the time
by bar bands. Is this still illegal?
Thanks in advance.

**A: yes, even if you used a Fender Strat with distortion.
