i live in wisconsin. i had someone living with me and they moved out in february. they left four dressers and a bed at my house, but kept telling me they were coming to get them. well, they recently moved to texas and are not coming back. will they be able to sue me for getting rid of these things? they are taking up space in my house. i have no way to get a hold of these people. any help would be great.

My response:

If you can, write them a letter that informs them that you consider the furniture "abandoned property". Give them ten (10) days to respond with a firm date for pick-up. Of course, they won't, and you can then go ahead and sell, give-away, discard or donate the furniture.

Send the letter via Certified Mail, and keep a copy for yourself.
