Pet deposit

When we moved into our current residence we paid a pet deposit. We no longer have the dog. The have stopped making us pay pet rent each month but when I asked them about pet deposit I simply got no response. Do we have to wait until end of lease to get that deposit back or should we be able to get it back now? Thanks

What does your lease say about this situation?

(BTW, I have always thought landlords needed "children deposits"; crumbcrunchers cause more damage than doggies and kitties.)
