What is the name of your state? NY/FL

I was staying in NY a couple of months ago and got caught at a pharmacy stealing something worth less than $10. The "security guard" let me go after taking my address and copying my Ohio state ID <I move a lot  > Anyway, a month or so later, my girlfried says she got a letter from the pharmacy saying they were going to take civil action. What can I do about this?

The pharmacy had 2 years to file charges, a month is nothing. You are looking at both a criminal and civil fines. Plus you get to answer yes on any job applications if you have ever been convicted of a crime.
