I purchased a second car for my wife from a used car lot that turned out to have had the car consigned from a private owner, who himself has a few car lots but no ownership or stake in this particular establishment beyond the sale of this particular vehicle. Now I've had zero problem with the vehicle and dont want my money back or any repairs done. It is a very solid vehicle. The problem is that the pinkslip (or whatever the real name of the document is) and the contract conflict. I did indeed sign both. Pinkslip says a balance due after date of purchase is 4300.00 while contract doesn't directly state dollar amount, but instead states that I agree to make 18 monthly payments of 311.00 which far exceeds the 4300 due. I talked to the establishment who told me that they had no further role in this matter and to take it up with the owner. I talked to him and he said he doesn't know or care about what the pinkslip says he wants his 18 of 311. What are my legal options.

Also note that here in St. Louis, Mo. the pinkslip is used to calculate personal property taxes and sales taxes owed on the vehicle.

Sorry So long. Please Help!!

pink slip

You are held to the payments that are stated in the sales contract. No matter what the pink slip says, the sales contract determines your rights and liabilities. From the amounts you gave, it is possible there is no mistake here. The amount owed per the pink slip should be the principal owed at that date, whereas, the payment schedule should include that amount and also interest for 18 months.
