What is the name of your state? New Jersey: My husband is currently in state prison for 2 cts of burglary and is sentenced to a 5 flat term. He still has one pending burglary charge which he has not even been indicted on yet. How would he go about pleaing no contest to the charges. We would like to get this matter settled as soon as possible because he is trying to get ISP and is automatically inelligable untill ALL matters are settled. This last charge is from 11/10/04, the last 2 charges took about 4-6 weeks time for him to get indicted. Could this mean they don't have enough evidence ect.. to prosecute the case? I call the Criminal case management office and they tell me it its still in the complaintent stage, however they do not know when the indictment date is. The prosecutors office will not release that information to me. Right now, he is willing to plea no contest, w/out legal representation and then apply for a public defender to handle the rest of the matter. Any advice on how to go about this? Sorry so long

Your husband needs a public defender. No judge in his right mind will let your husband plead without a lawyer.
