What is the name of your state?NC
I work for a large retail company at customer service. Recently, a customer started yelling at me for following company procedure. I tried to walk away but a manager told me to go back and finish the return. Customer continued to yell and started calling me names. I then took off my company jacket and told him "Let's take this outside". Another manager came and finished the sale. Customer went outside and called the cops. Apparently he felt threatened by a 5 foot, 120 lb female. Cops came and took statements from several employees and the customer. Result was no charges were filed. Customer stayed outside talking to the cops for about an hour, he then came into the store and spoke with upper management and left. That night, he called the corporate office to complain and threatened to call his attorney.
Please tell me what my options are. Am I supposed to accept the verbal abuse, slander and defamation of character or is there any recourse? I am told there are people out there who initiates this kind of confrontations in order to get a piece of corporate america. Is this true? If so, is there any laws that protect the working public? I think this is taking the "Customer is always right" belief to the extreme. Please advice.
