 What is the name of your state? VA
I have two cars, one is insured in my name under my parents insurance. The other is insured under me and under a different insurance company. My boyfriend is not included on my policy. If I allow him to borrow my car and something were to happen, like if he were in an accident, what would happen. Would i be sued? What could happen if I allow him to drive it? Please help!!

I believe most policy's will cover another adult who may be borrowing the car as long as they don't live at the same residence as you.

However, in my opinion, after considering the circumstances, what I believe would be the best thing for you to do, is wait until he brings your car back, then dump this loser and date a guy who can afford to have his own car and his own insurance!

Because if you keep letting this parasite use your car and returning it on empty, he will begin to take it and you, for granted. The next thing you know he will be driving it around with another girl in the passenger seat. Probably one of your girlfriends!

You need to check with your insurance company. How old is your boyfriend? How old are you? If he is driving the car on your parents policy, did they give permission? Does he have his own car and insurance? All these things play a role. Now consider what outonbail said because there is a lot of truth in what they say.

As the owner of the vehicle (no matter WHO is driving), yes you will be made a party to any lawsuit that might be filed against his use of the vehicle.

And! Not all policies will cover drivers other than the owner. Many of these low-cost insurance companies keep their prices low by covering ONLY the registered owner as the driver.

It is always good to check the policy.

"If he is driving the car on your parents policy, did they give permission? "

Parents have no say in who drives the daughter's car since the car is in the daughter's name.

But it is on their policy and very possibly one of their names is on the car as well.

You are correct, they have no "say". However, if they do not give permission, and he has an accident, he will not be covered by the parent's insurance policy.

Sorry, but as expected... you are NOT correct.
The parents INSURANCE company has all the say in the world as to whether a driver on the daughters car will be covered or not. It has NOTHING to do with the ownership of the vehicle!! :D

You didn't understand the question. The parents don't have any legal say as to who drives the car owned by the daughter, even if the car is insured on the parents' policy.

Unless the boyfriend is named on the policy as an excluded driver, the girlfriend can give persmission to the boyfriend to borrow the carjust the same as she can give permission to you or me to borrow the car. It is a very rare policy that will only allow a named insured to drive the insured vehicle.
