Here is a breakdown of my question, hope it has all the needed information.
The incident : An email was recently sent out to a mailing list of my friends and acquantainces (over 50 people) from an unidentified email address with my name attached to it, probably with the intent that it would be read and recieve attention as if I myself had sent it.
The content: The email consisted entirely of extended insults to me, very hurtful language, and a terrible defamation of character based on totally false premises.
The technicalities: We have obtained the IP address that the email was sent from and know that it was sent from a MN residential address that uses Road Runner as their internet service provider through Time Warner Cable. But the IP address is owned by Road Runner and we would need them to disclose who their specific user/ location was that this IP was assigned to.
The issue : Do we have enough here to be able to require Road Runner to disclose their user name and or location? Once we have identified the person what legal action can be taken ?
All help will be truly appreciated as this issue has completely destroyed my peace of mind and tried to completely malign my reputation.
