Please help, trademark question

What would you do if you wanted to apply for both classes consecutively but were not sure that the slogan would get registered (maybe someone else has it already, etc. and then you would be out $650 instead of $325) would you wait or just do it?

actually, I wanted to ask, two other things. If the standard character mark is initially denied, would I have to reapply to ask for a designed mark or would that be a continuation of the initial process?

Also, what if I ammend my initial application to change from tshirts to long sleeve and short sleeve tshirts, plus add in some other things from that same clothing class such as knit shirts and golf shirts or sweat pants but which were not initially specified, will they deny the whole ammendment?
