What is the name of your state? England.

Back in september one of my admins for my fish forum i own offered to pay for the host i would soon be needing, with the agreement on msn, of paying half towards the cost. Anyway after 4 weeks of my forum being on the host he took us offline and deleted some important files from my database, making it near on impossible to have my forum working again. He told me that he had intensions of using the webhost for himself and that i either had to buy my own host or pay the whole amount of his host, which is all registered to him. i decided to buy my own host, thinking that this would be the end of it. I was wrong, 2 days ago he told me that he wanted my forum, host and domain or i had to pay him the whole amount of his host (that he still has 10 months on) as he said that we had a legally binding agreement (msn)

Can i just forget about this or do i have something to worry about?

Who knows? Not only is this question dependent on the exact wording of any agreements and contracts you might have, it is also based on UK law -- from the top of the page: Questions about U.S. law ONLY.

Ah, the old Admin hijacks the forum routine. So you are saying that the content of the site belonged exclusively to YOU, you created it and you owned it?

A pc geek offered to relocate the site for you and when he did he put the new site in his name? He moved everything that had been yours to the new site, which was owned by him? He basically locked you out and now he's saying you can't even use your OWN material on your OWN site?

Did you have a copyright on the original site? Was everything there really YOUR'S or did your admin contribute just as much as you did?

Hi thanks for the replies, the forum and domain we're mine prior to the move to the new webhost that he bought in his name, when he decided to take my forum offline he also messed with my database, which meant i could not get it running again, so in respect i have to start all over again.

And now he's using that webhost for his own personal uses and is expecting me to pay because of agreeing over msn that we would pay halves, but i don't see why i have to pay him when he is using a webhost that i have never had access to and the fact that he purposely ruined a phpbb forum that was registered in my name and had my bought and paid for domain sat on it. :(

I've tried to figure out exactly who owes who what, but I don't know anything about buying hosts, forums, etc.

The only thing I can suggest is that you ask him to show you a copy of the "agreement" you had with him. This sounds like a very informal partnership gone bad and I can't imagine there is enough money involved to for either of you to be bothered by it.

I don't think anyone else here will offer you any help because you are outside the US. Good luck to you!
