What is the name of your state? Ohio

I was arrested for shoplifting when I was 19. I stole $50 worth of merchandise from Kmart. I didn't know to get a lawyer so I pled guilty to the first degree misdemeanor. I got 2 years probation and no jail time. I am now 24. This has haunted me every day since then. About 6 months ago I was pulled over for driving on a suspended license ( i do have a bad driving record). With a lawyer it was brought down to a "no operators license". As far as I know the criminal charge still stands though. Is that a class A misdemeanor also? if so, I have 2 misdemeanors on my record. I am about to graduate with a degree in social work. I have been told that this will not affect my getting a professional license because they are unrelated crimes with no victims. I can't help but think that it might affect my chances of getting a job in social services and reflect poorly on my character. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. In Ohio I am also not eligible for expungement unless it's your first and only offense. What should I do?

Q: I have been told that this will not affect my getting a professional license because they are unrelated crimes with no victims.

A: You have been told wrong. Theft always has a victim.

Q: I can't help but think that it might affect my chances of getting a job in social services and reflect poorly on my character.

A: I think you are correct. You need to work in a place that hires thieves.

Yeah, you guys are hilarious. Thanks for making me feel worse about this problem. Do anyone have any real advice or actually know anything about this? I feel really bad about it and I'm not a thief (anymore).

You got your legal advice.

You are not bright enough to realize it.
