well first of all, do you know where she could've gotten this letter? if she opened an envelope that didn't have her name on it, that's a felony as it is. next, if they were never married or had kids together, where does she get off taking their stuff. tape these phone threats and get any proof of the other threats, that's harrassment in itself. also, the police cannot enter or let anyone else enter the home without a warrant (in which the letter is not officially one), and i'm not sure if they can even let anyone else into other's homes without judge consent. if his stuff is in a storage unit with her name, you may have to prove that she has his stuff. either way i say contact a lawyer ASAP and explain the situation. that should be your first priority!

thanks for the reply shed a whole new light on the situation .tampering with mail is a felony because she has been stealing his mail everyday.do we need to get a writ to serve her to get his property back that the police allowed her to take?

If she is stealing the mail or otherwise tampering with the USPS mail - you need to contact your local Postal Inspector's office. You can get their number by calling 1-800-ASK-USPS. Tell them that you need the number for the Postal Inspector for your ZIP code.

Good luck.
