What is the name of your state? Michigan
I didn't know where else to ask about this, so I'm asking here, and I'll try to keep it quick...
Long story short, I used to be a crossing guard for a middle school and I had to go through this: https://forum.freeadvice.com/showthread.php?p=1912777 to try to help put a guard in an intersection by the school that badly needed it. I called city hall beforehand to see if there were any restrictions on who could sign one due to age or otherwise, and it turned out there are none except for the fact that you have to be a resident to sign. So, encouraged, I got everybody in town that I could reach to sign -- parents, neighbors, students, everybody. Keep these facts in mind.
Anyway, after I gave the signatures to the city council at their meeting, I was harassed by my boss and coworker to the point where I was driven to quit my job.
I had to deal with the other crossing guard bitching at me about the petition I passed around, she yelled at me from her van when I was walking into a nearby gas station once :/ The police chief wasn't much better. He lied and made up things, which is the reason why I'm asking about this here.
A couple of weeks after I put the petition to city council, he drove up to me at the intersection where I worked at the end of my shift, yelled at me and claimed that he "got a ton of complaints from parents of the children who signed the petition" and I just go so frustrated that I dropped my sign and vest on the ground by his feet and left. :/ A week after I quit, I ran into some of the students from the school and they, thinking I got fired, asked me what happened and I had to tell them what went on. From talking to them, I found out that -- surprise, surprise -- nobody made any complaints about the petition. I asked one of the cops earlier today about whether any complaints were made, and, you guessed it, he didn't hear anything about any complaints about it. So obviously, the police chief was lying and making **** up to try to trick me into quitting.
This, of course, begs the question: why would someone resort to manipulation on that level to try to get rid of someone over an intersection without a crossing guard?
And my questions to you guys are: is there any legal action or whatever that I could take to try to rectify this situation in any way? I'm afraid that if I said anything in court about what the police chief told me, he'd just lie some more and it'd be my word against his. :/
