What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?
California

Today I was suspended for 5 days. I was caught smoking on school campus. When I went to the office I was searched and had a lighter, pipe, eye drops, and 2 razor blades. The razor blades were for cutting pockets in my PE shorts though I don't think they believed my story. I was being compliant and honest with the vice principal.

I'm a freshman at high school. Last week I came back from a suspension for being under the influence of Valiums. About a month and a half before that I had been suspended for being in possession of marijuana. Now this is my third strike and I had razor blades on me. Last year in middle school I was suspended numerous times for disrupting teachers and small pranks.

I'm a good kid, not a thug, though I always do the wrong thing. What to you think will happen to me? Expulsion from the school district? Expulsion from school? I'm 15 years of age and I do plan on cleaning myself up. If you need any additional information, just ask.

Thanks!

Just when do you "plan" to clean yourself up? Seriously - you KNOW you're not supposed to have drugs, razor blades, etc. while in school.

Yes, you will likely be expelled and you'll have to go to an alternative school. Or your parents can home school you. Or put you in a private school of some type. If you were my kid, by now I'd be looking at military-type academies as it would be clear whatever I was doing wasn't helping.

2 razor blades?

What one for each pocket?

I mean come on - 2 razors.

And I'm not saying you had these as a weapon as some naive person might. Because you didn't

You had 2 blades to cut up one drugs or another for snorting them up your nose. The old slice and dice. cut and fold. I was 15 once too.

I bet the eye drops were because he spends so much time studying that his eyes dry out, right?

No one can say what WILL happen, but from what you have written here, you are a good candidate for expulsion ... or, you are right there.

If you get lucky enough to dodge the expulsion bullet, what are you planning to do to get help straightening up? It might help to have that in hand when/if your parents decide to challenge the suspension or a future expulsion. The school might like to hear how sorry you are and what promises (likely to be placed in a contract) you will agree to in order to assure your good behavior.

This kid needs some therapy. With little kids often looking much older than they are, I think it's easy to forget that at 15, kids are still kids. They're immature and stupid, though they like to think of themselves as oh-so-adult. Even at 18, they're still stupid. I'm 29, and these days, most 29-year-olds are still stupid.

Rather than being told off for doing what he knows is wrong, this kid needs to be encouraged to seek therapy. He needs to get to the bottom of why he feels powerless to not leave the blades at school. No, no disorder should be blamed because he KNOWS he's doing wrong, but somehow he doesn't feel like it's within his control. He may have a drug addiction that makes him feel powerless. Regardless, he needs help. He's not an adult. He probably can't deal with this on his own. I'm getting the feeling his parents aren't A+ people.

Tehwall, tell your principal you want help. You probably will be expelled, but the principal should help you find the services you need.
