What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? NY
I am my moms POA and she is getting medical bills from nursing home etc. Collection agencies are calling telling me that I am responcible for the bills, my mom is still alive and I thought that my mom would be responcible or her estate. She lives in NY, any thoughts ? Thanks !!

You are responsible to the extent that your mother has funds available to pay the bills. As her POA, you are responsible for using her funds to pay her bills, or using her assets to pay her bills.

If she has no assets or funds, you are responsible for helping to get her on medicaid.

However, you are not responsible to pay HER bills with YOUR money.
