I was given POA for a person prior to being extradited to another state, for parole violation. I filed and cashed federal income tax return. It helped offset expenses for phone calls etc. during his incarceration. I received a notorized letter in the mail today stating he was revoking my POA. What should I do with the state return check? And was I within the guidelines of the law by cashing the federal check?

Whether you were within the guidelines for cashing the federal tax return checks is really dependent upon the words of the POA. As to the state refund check, DON'T CASH IT! If the check is made out to you, sign it on the back and send it to your friend. If it is not made out to you, then send it to your friend.
