Pressure to resign

My wife and I both work for the same college.
She recently accepted a position at a college in another state, and she resigned. I am not a teacher, so I have a 12-month contract. I was not planning to resign until I had another job lined up, but as soon as my wife resigned, the administration began to pressure me to resign. They also informed me that I would have to make a one-year commitment if I stayed rather than stay until I get a job lined up and then leave with 30-days' notice. Can they do that?

There is no general law against an employer pressuring an employee to resign. Nor is there any unlawful action by the employer to require an employee in your situation to sign a one-year employment contract rather than be an at-will employee.

I am not sure but, I think Mark B. Replogle is the responding attorney? my intent is not to start a debating matched it is to have accurate facts. As I understand, an employee can file a "Constructive Wrongful Termination" action suit. An employee in a state that recognizes this does not have to be fired in order to have the ability to sue an employer for "Intolerable Working Conditions". If an employee can prove that an employer created intolerable working conditions in an effort to get the employee to quit and these conditions were known by the employer, or intentionally created by the employer, than the employee may pursue.
