In Arizona, my previous landlord sent me a letter threatening to report me to credit agency and sue me for unpaid sums.
I leased appt. for a couple of years, when lease expired I gave 30 days noticed and vacated (on time).
Leasing office claims that I did not give notice. I have copy of letter giving notice, and another tenant witnessed me give notice.
A couple months ago (6 months after I vacated) the leasing
company sent me a bill equivalent to 1 month's rent as a "30 day notice fee", and an additional charge for "relet fee", equal to another month's rent.
I sent them a letter disputing these charges (certified mail, return receipt).
They just sent me the Ex-Resident Demand Letter/Balance Due
threatening legal action if I do not pay in full within 10 days.
Do I have any rights?
Where will the process likely go from here?

Dispute with CA or Credit Bureau

Write mgmt that if they attempt to turn you over to "collection" or report you to the credit bureau, you will dispute any claim and provide the paperwork you have in your possession....then do it. Check your credit report through the web or if you are denied credit so that you can keep track if they attempt to collect from you in this way.

Good luck.
