What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state? TX
I have 2/3 (depending on answer to #2) questions:

1 - Why have the priority dates on the visa bulletin retrogressed back so extremely? I would assume that the dates would move forwards or stay where they are at (like they have been for the psat 1.5 years - not move backwards. In the past 2 months alone the dates have retrogressed back tremendously by several years. For the past year they have been at a priority date of April 01 with no or little movement and then all of a sudden the extreme retrogression of dates. (Sept 2005 to June 2006 it was 22APR01; July 2006 it is 01JAN00; August 2006 it is 01JAN97). It just doesn't make sense.

2- My mom just became a US citizen, and I have now an approved relative petition with her for a greencard (I was older then 21 when she got her green card so couldn't get a greencard with her when she got hers) . Although my priority date of 21DEC01 to get a visa, can I now file for an adjustment of status and get the temporary work permit since my mom is a citizen now while I wait for my priority date?

3- If the answer is No to the above question.
I am currently on my 5th year with my H1-B, and a Canadian citizen. So with the dates retrogressed back so much I doubt that I will get my green card in the next year. So if I can't adjustment my status or find a new employeer to sponsor me for a greencard, and since I like my current employeer (and they only sponsor H1-B and TN's but no greencards) can I switch to a TN visa after my H1-B expires? Several people tell me that it is not advised because I am then changing my intentions? and that I can be denied entrance back into the US even if I have a job offer.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

If you are still unmarried and over 21 and your mother is now a US citizen, you need to check to see if the priority date for the new family-based preference category is now current and, if so, and ONLY if so, you can submit the adjustment of status application along with the upgrade request showing your mother's new status.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions or how I can be of further assistance to you in this matter.

priority dates

Thanks for the reply. Do you know why the priority dates on the visa bulletin have retrogressed back so extremely? I understand there is a backlog, but I would assume that the dates would move forwards a little or stay where they are at (like they have been for the psat 1.5 years) - not move backwards.

I guess I am trying to determine why move backwards and not stay where they are.
