What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? GA

Wasn't sure where to post this because it's not really clear cut. I guess it's considered a civil matter as it it likely for a debt.

A private investigator called threatening to search bank accounts, tax records, assetts and anything else he can get his hands on.

What can a private investigator LEGALLY DO?

Can they enter my home without permission- it is not in the debtors name, I am the debtor's fiance.

He said he was doing a financial profile on an individual- what does this mean? And what can he do to us??

He can do just about anything as long as it's legal and accessible public record like asset searches-cars, homes, boats owned and so forth.

He can not enter the home, access banking or income tax records- they're just not available to him.

Sounds like your fiance owes money on a court judgment. The private investigator can, on his own, collect any information readily available through public records. Anything else will require a subpoena through the courts. You are not obligated to give him any information he cannot find on his own.

A private investigator is NOT a law enforcement officer. They are not legally allowed to come onto your property or into your home without your permission. Even a law enforcement officer would not be able to enter without probable cause or a search warrant.

This P.I. sounds to me like he is quite aggressive, but I certainly wouldn't be doing him any favors. If he wants the information, let him get it the legal way.
