I purchased a 2000 Mazda MPV from a Private Party that clearly is a lemon on December 23 or 24, 2004, for $7,000.00 Began having noises when I drove home, took to dealer and had diagnosed with major engine problems requiring repairs upward of $3,000.00 to $4,000.00...do I have any recourse. PLEZ help. Single, newly divorced mother who is already financially strapped and had to borrow to purchase this vehicle that is unusable.......literally sick about the situation. Feel I was taken advantage of.

do I have any recourse
Probably not. Unfortunately in your case, it was YOUR responsibility to have a mechanic check out the car BEFORE putting your money down. When you buy a used car from a private party, the operative term is caveat emptor -- let the buyer beware. In other words, unless you have some written evidence to the contrary, the purchase was "as is."

Next time, have a mechanic check the car our before paying for the car.

Perhaps because you are a divorced mother who is financially strapped - and you forgot to mention your three kids, we should all just send you some cash to help you along. Does your marital status have anything to do with the car? Look around, about 80 percent of the people are divorced. Sorry, no sympathy points!

REPLY TO wnagel....regarding mommadawn and lemon of a car

I was not asking for sympathy points thank you. No, it's not 3 children it's 4. Obviously you rate right up there with the person who quite comfortably sold me a lemon. Are you always this rude as a adult, or does it just come naturally?

I'm surprized it passed smog if it was that defective, the seller did provide a current smog certificate as required by law?
