PLEASE HELP
I took a private student loan for medical residency in 2003 that I thought wasnt to go into repayment until summer 2006 when I finish residency. Unfortunately, Access Group did not receive a verification letter that I was in residency, so they started repayment 6/04. I didnt know because they sent information to my old address even though I updated my current address on their website.
On 12/26/04, I got a call for OSI saying I owe $10,000, plus fees, immediately. I was confused, and for a lack of better words, frightened, so I gave then $5000 from my parents credit card. I know, big mistake for several reasons. I gave them my corrected contact info. I thought I would just be able to get a personal loan quickly to slide under the radar from my parents and pay back OSI--NOPE.
Anyway, after multiple phone calls daily between 12/26-1/6/05 , I tried to work out payment plans, but they said "NO", eventually hanging up in my face and threatening wage & tax garnishment. I then sent a "Validation Letter" on 1/6/05 that they never responded to.
In the meanwhile, I kept trying to contact the original creditor-Access Group. Finally talked to them yesterday and they said they would not take back the loan and I needed to call OSI back. I am afraid to talk to them on the phone because I do not trust them. I was in the process of sending them another letter
Access Group spoke with OSI and told them my situation and why the loan mistakeningly went into repayment early. OSI calls today (1st time since letter) and wanted to work out payment. She, Tomi Baron, asked me for my bank name, work name, paystub, bill paymenta, etc. I told her that I wanted to tape the conversation and she said "NO", or that I wanted to do this in writing. She told me to fax a copy of my bills, paystub, rent, etc to her and she would decide on a payment plan.
Should l give them this information??? Do you think in will be used to work out payment plans or, worse case scenario, garnishment vs illegally drafting my bank account? Should I believe that she's trying to help?
Thanks
