What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? California

Yesterday I voluntarily went to the Sherriff's office to speak with a detective that has been building a case against me for fraud or embezzlement and/or elser abuse. I am a financial planner who did his best to devise a plan for a client that subsequently went bad. It looks like I did some bad things but I only wanted what was best for my client. They have my bank statementsand know money came and went. They want me to bring in my paperwork to proove where the money went.

Should I do this or clam up and let him proove his case? The detective told me that all he has is opinions at this point and if he had enough he would have already arrested me. I cannot afford a good attorney.

Thank you.
