What is the name of your state? Texas

My mother passed away last month & my sister notified me that she gave a lawyer the go ahead to begin the probate process. I have not even seen the will though my name is on it & my sister will not tell me the lawyers name who is handling things.

Is there some way I can find out on my own who is handling the probate or do I have to hire another lawyer to do this for me?

Call the county courthouse where mom died and ask to speak with the Probate clerk. When you reach him/her ask if there is a current file on [mother's name]. If there is not one, no probate has been opened.

and yes, the file is public information.
