probation violation, just wandering what penalties are

What is the name of your state? Massachusetts, ok heres the deal, 2 friends of mine were arrested and charged with tagging, they got 5 months prbation and they hav to obey all home and school rule with random drug tests(they smoked but werent charged for the weed) its been about a month and a half into the probatin and they started with some kid, they ended up throwin rocks at his parents car, if they are caught what could happen to them? I need help with this quick cuz they are scared and im tryin to help them out with the information, thanks ....

Violation of probation can result in revocation of probation and the sentence which was suspended being imposed.

Probation is often provided to young or first time offenders in the hope that they learn from it and manage to get their act together. It is also a way to keep them from serving time in a jail, prison or youth facility (and the cost to the public). It is usually only a part of the 'real' sentence.

If they violate the terms of the probation (as it sounds might have occured in your example), the court could (and likely would) decide that they shouldn't receive the 'benefit' of probation and decide to impose the full original sentence on them.
