Court ordered child support for unwed father, prior to court order never missed the agreed upon payment.

Of course CP got greedy now its court ordered, I don't have a problem with that. My issue is when we were at court, no mention was made of paying through probation, I assumed the checks would go directly to the CP. After I had sent her the first few checks I get a letter from the Child Support office to pay directly through them and not to the CP and now I have to fill out this information including my DL # (which I don't want to do)

Can I keep paying the CP directly or do I have to do this and if so can I fight it?

Any comments or advice is appreciated

The CP has the right in NJ to request that payments go through probation. You CAN fight it, but you'd need a compelling reason for a judge to veto the idea. My ex has, mostly for professional reasons, and the judge agreed not to go that route as long as he quits deducting arbitrary sums on a whim. If he starts that up again - BOOM - it goes through probation.

It really is better for you, in many ways. There will be a traceable record of your payments, so she won't be able to claim you haven't paid. And, I dunno about you, but we had to disclose our DL#s on the CIS - so your ex already has that information anyway.

Why would you say CP was greedy? If you were paying anyway why does it matter who you address the envelope to? The reason they want the DL# is so if you decide not to pay they can suspend it..........You may not want to do it but if the judge ordered it you may have to suck it up and do it anyway...The CP may not want to deal with someone who would call them greedy for wanting you to support a child that you helped create...Just my opinion......... You can call an attorney and fight it if you have the extra cash to potentially throw away.........but if I were you I would just suck it up and pay where they want you to pay.....It also helps you to prove that you have paid on time every time and makes you look good....

It's better if you pay the state. Stealth is correct! You don't pay her the State does.
One year my ex was overpaid one year and in December I tied to tell her because the state had not recovered money from me. She hung up on me and wouldn't talk to me, as she does. So for xmas I got a fat check. Sure enough come January I got this phone call from my crying ex screaming at me on why I hadn't paid. I told her to call her attorney and call the state, I had nothing to do with it. My victory was shot lived however. She did need the $$ and I could not just leave her and my son there, so I gave her $300.00 (this is the byweekly amount) until in agreement that she will slowly pay me back $50.00 per month. I never saw a nickel of it back but now she LISTENS to me when I try to tell her how and what the state is doing. And that in itself, is big and a lot more than $300.00 could ever buy.

You are probably being told to send your CS payments directly to the state (CS enforcement office) because your ex used their services/assistance to not only establish the order in the first place, but then to collect and enforce the payments on her behalf. Generally, if the state is used to establish the order, it's mandatory the payments go thru their office as well, unless directed otherwise (thru private attorney). They do this to keep record of payments received (ie; doing their job) and then forward the money to the CP. If this is court ordered, you must abide by their rules. If they ask for your DL#, you must provide it or be in contempt. It's all part of the procedure. Providing your DL# is the least of your worries......if they have your SS#....which more than likely they do because this is required on all CS court docs....then you are already traceable anywhere at any time.

You'd be doing yourself a big disservice by NOT paying thru them instead of directly to the CP. They will keep record of all payments received, so if for some reason the CP comes back later and claims you didn't pay as ordered, all you have to do is have the state bring up their records to show proof.
