Well....If your great-great-great grandparent were kidnapped, shackled, tossed in the bowel of a ship and taken to a foreign nation to be sold at auction...You would embrace your stolen ethnicity as well...
Stolen ethnicity? I don’t think that’s possible.

Well, even that cannot be severed from the person. It can be forgotten if one is isolated from the geographical area where the practices and beliefs were learned but the Jewish folks have done a pretty good job proving one is separated from their heritage only if one chooses to forget their heritage.
