What is the name of your state? California.

Hello, A friend of mine {age 24} had given her mother the power of attorney 4 years ago. The mom has done nothing but pay her own bills and not her daughters. So we got a revocation of power of attorney form on line. Took it to the bank and had it notorized and I gave it to mom. Is this all that we have to do? Do we have to register it at the courthouse? We didn't register it and the mom keeps right on using the power of attorney. Thanks, Bill

That's a good idea; however, it is not enough. Have your friend take that DIY paper to an attorney for review. Have the attorney send the POA a letter informing POA of both civil and criminal consequences of continuing to use the POA. The grantor (your friend) needs to send a copy of revocation to all creditors' legal department. The grantor needs to bring a copy of the revocation the bank where grantor has accounts. Also, have grantor close all bank accounts, open new ones. Cancel all credit cards and acquire new ones. Your friend needs certified copies of the revocation in case the original gets misplaced.
