What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? NY
When my divorce degree / child custody papers were final, my lawyer had said to me that if my ex-husband violates the decree in any way, I should file a police report for documention.

If I ever feel the need to file a report, is my ex-husband notified ?

I understand the need for documentation but I also would have to weigh the situation due to the severity of reaction it might provoke from my ex.

Thank you very much for your time.

In ANY way? Financial or custodial?

That's rather extreme.

Non criminal financial matters certainly need not be handled through the police.

There's no "yes or no" answer here. It depends.

As nextwife said, some issues aren't really issues for the police and in that case they may not even make a report. For everything else, whether or not they would talk to him would depend on the nature of the complaint.

I suppose you want anonymity because you don't want to be a victim of retaliation, but if he commits a criminal act against you and gets away with it you're his victim anyway.

If it's a criminal matter (such as you feeling your life is in danger), you have to call the police. Yes, he will be notified, but if there is a real danger, you can ask the court for a restraining order to keep him away from you.

If it's a civil matter (such as he won't pay child support), then you notify your lawyer and discuss how to handle it with him.

How can they investigate your report without speaking with him? They can't just take your word.

Okay, that does make sense.
I don't know this process, this is why I'm asking questions !
I have no idea what happens when filing a police report; what happens to it, etc.

thx
