What is the name of your state? California

My neighbor was just telling me that he was arrested 2 weeks ago for using profanity and disturbing the peace on federal property. Sounds pretty serious huh? Here's what happened-

He's about 67 years old and used to work for the FAA. He rode his bicycle to his credit union which is some type of government credit union. He left his bike outside and was met at the door by a security guard (private security company). The guard told him that he wasn't allowed to ride his bike on gov't property and asked him to leave.

My neighbor asked to use the phone to call one of his contacts in the building and was denied access so he told the guard that he was going to use the phone on the side of the building. The guard told him he could not and that he would have to leave the property because of the no bike rule.

My neighbor responded that it was a "stupid" rule. He admits that he may have said it was a "damn" stupid rule, but doesn't remember. At that point the guard told him that he was under arrest for disorderly conduct and using profanity. He was handcuffed and taken into the building and held until 2 federal officers came and took a report. He was told that he'll have to appear in federal court and likely have to pay a small fine and he was released.

My neighbor is not a hothead and I find it very uncharacteristic that he would become angry or belligerent enough to warrant this treatment. He is angry over this incident and, since my wife is an attorney, thought she might be able to provide some guidence. She has no idea what to suggest.

Does anyone here have any thoughts?

P.S. There didn't really seem to be a good forum fit for this thread so I figured this was as good as any place. Perhaps a new forum section for Federal Law?What is the name of your state?

What law does your wife practice? She should suggest he hire a criminal defense attorney.

She practices environmental litigation. Guess I should have qualified my statement. She didn't have any contacts/friends who practice criminal law so she couldn't refer someone. Neighbor was seeking guidence on preliminary steps he should take before hiring an attorney.
