What is the name of your state? Arizona

I made a payment to a pest control company in my town through my banks online bill pay service. The pest control company sent me another bill stating my bill is past due. I looked into the matter and found the pest control company did get paid and the bank sent me a copy of the cancelled check. The pest control company is demanding I prove that I paid the bill 'in person'. I feel this is unreasonable. Am I under any legal obligation to prove payment to this company? I believe they made an accounting mistake and now I am being forced to prove payment. I offered to email a copy of the cancelled check to the company but they refused acceptance. At this time I just don't feel I need to prove anything to them. Again, am I required legally to prove payment?

Thanks in advance for your assistanceWhat is the name of your state?

Not yet. But if you want to avoid the hassle of defending yourself in a small claims suit, or dealing with a collection agency, then you will want to do what it takes to clear up the misunderstanding.
