What is the name of your state? NC

A salvage/recycle center was built across the road from my property. It is nasty, the air reeks of diesel, dusty, and it has basically turned our road into a nasty dirt muddy road especially after a rain with the large trucks going in and out of the business. The siding on my home is light brown now instead of white from all the dust generated from the trucks when dry weather. What can I do please please help this is my home I grew up in and used to be such a nice quiet road. Thx

Too late to do anything now. Other than sell out for what you can get and move.

There must have been a zoning hearing way back when the use of the property was first proposed. Didn't you and your neighbors fight it?

I had much the same problem, but with cow manure.
Check with an attorney and see if you have grounds to file a private nuisance lawsuit.
But to begin, you could find out if the scrapyard has a permit.

The permit requirement for non-ferrous metals is actually codified at https://law.justia.com/codes/north-carolina/2018/chapter-66/article-45/section-66-424/ (see (a)(2))
Considering that a permit is a "shall-issue" situation, and considering that the town seemed to be heavily involved prior to the center opening, I suspect that they've got a permit.

I don't see a permit requirement for ferrous metals listed there. While it's highly unlikely, it is possible that this "salvage/recycle center" doesn't deal in non-ferrous metals.

Thanks for correcting my link.
I'm sure they buy copper as there is no scrap value in steel or aluminum at the moment.
Scrap price for steel, 11c per pound, aluminum cans 28c per pound and copper wire, $2.04 per pound.

Yep, I'm aware :)
As an interesting note, the cost to purchase .043" thick raw soft copper sheet in October of 1992 was $1.72 per pound. My, how times have changed.

So true.
With the rise in scrap copper prices copper thefts here became so bad that landlords were ripping out perfectly good copper pipework and replacing it with PEX.
They made money from the sale of the copper, and the copper thieves didn't break in and tear out the walls anymore.
Off I go on a tangent again.
The first thing the OP needs to do is contact a local attorney, and be prepared for a drawn out fight.

There is a comerclal building in Cambridge MN that was empty for a long time and at night it was repeatedly being broken into even after the copper was stolen, so finally its owner put up a BIG giant sign , ` the copper has already been stolen ` Anyway Big Katt if your city/ county zoning rules allowed it then perhaps you want to learn if they also required any steps to be taken to harden the gravel say with a magnesium solution ( I think is what was used to harden the gravel in front of a hunting club I passed by daily in the past) and anyway it turns gravel almost into a concrete like surface that the township only graded once every spring and was good to go all summer unlike un treated roads ( no dust trails in the air either ) or any thing like that as well as dust controls during business operation hours .
