What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Florida.

I rented a storage unit to store a family members items the he received from an inheritance. He paid the rent to date but refuses to pay any longer. He will not come and get the contents. The unit is in my name. What do I need to do to dispose of the contents?

One of two things pay the rent on it your self and send to them certified letter stating that your not going to pay another months rent and this is now their notice the things will be treated as abandonded property by you in X number days ( give them say thirty days ) and then if the unit is not empty go there with your reciept have the locks cut and empty it your self if you want to return the unit to the storage company. If the relative does not pick up his certified mail and it comes back to you then Id say cut the locks empty the unit and store the things at your own residence or dispose of them ( if the thirty days passes while its on time you paid for and you dispose of the things then they attempt to sue you bring to court with you the returned certified letter still sealed in original envelope and they can explain why they could pick up their mail to the court as the court delivers the letter to them , dont see them as winning a dime from you in court as long as you paid the next months rent and gave sent written notice to them.
