On a lease that I signed I should carry casualty insurance on the Premises. The "landlord shall be named as insured"

Is this legal? Shouldn't he have provided insurance and send me my share. I'm 1 of 4 tenants. The fire started in his premises & he did not have insurance.

I have apolicy that states if i'm responsible for the fire, I'll pay.

Thanks
