Property lein

I am in need of some advice..
I went to refinance my property and found a lein was put on the property .
Legally seperated 6/95
Lein was attached to property 7/95
Divorce final 4/96
My x signed the quick deed
In divorce decree it states: husband & wife shall be responsible for indebtedness incurred in their names since the date of seperation.
I was already told my decree does'nt hold.
The lein was put on their by a finance co. which was a medical bill.
I'd appericate any imput...

The finance company is not bound by your agreement with your ex. If I lend both you and your wife money, and then you split and she promises you she'll pay it all, but doesn't, why should I be unable to collect from you? I wasn't party to the divorce. See what I mean?

I don't think I'm understanding the reply.
Even though the property is in my name, the lein was attached to the property when, the divorce papers say we pay our own debts. So the divorce papers don't stand up?
