What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state? Washington
An aquaintance of mine had his door kicked in last week by the police, the house was searched. His "girlfriend" had a small amount of meth in her purse, she also had a warrant for an old DUI that she skipped court on. Because of the meth, the police took for evidence several items and ALL his cash. The items taken were: his computer, a laptop, two security cameras and the monitors, and his drivers license.
There was nothing else found in the house, and he has never been in any trouble. He was unaware of his girlfriends "recreational" habits, and he does not indulge. Why would they take these things and how long can they hold them? The money is his rent for May.

Well then I guess he should be calling an attorney right? and don't believe he didn't know. The 'stuff' was taken into evidence and is probably lost.

From being pulled by all you OP's!!!!!!

1.Tell him he should have a less unsavory girlfriend.
2. Call the landlord, rent is gonna be late!
3. Why HIS driver's license?
4. Did they have a warrant when they kicked in the door?

Well the girlfriend asked him to post her bail, he laughed and hung up the phone. I doubt she will be going home to his house any time soon. Why HIS license? Thats what he would like to know. There was a warrant. I guess he has a neighbor that got into a dispute with (again the girlfriend) someone visiting his girlfriend about where not to park and cleaning up the oil left by the visitors car.So a complaint of unsavory people by the neighbor was all it took for a warrant to be issued. The landlord has been contacted and will be patient for a short period after the 1st, but not very. As for believing him, I do. He is not a drug type person. More on the lines of nerd. Hiring an attorney is a luxury for some people, besides, HE wasnt charged with anything, why should his property be lost?

Why?
B/C he chose a drug using skank for a girlfriend. He should have known that he would get what he paid for when he called the escort service......

It could be that he was not at home when the warrant was served and they tok the license to verify ID. It could also be that the license was found with residue of a controlled substance on it or in close proximity to some drugs.

A disagreement about oil on the stret would NOT lead to a search warrant. Until they go to court and have an opportunity to see the affidavit for the search warrant, nobody is going to know for sure what the police knew ... well, I suspect the parties involved know but they ain't 'fessin' up to it.

His property was present and might be evidence of her drug use or sales. My guess is that the items taken are part of an effort to show drug sales. They are looking for records of transactions and other indicia.

If he is not charged and the evidence is ultimately not needed he can go to the police or the DA to ask for it's release at some point down the road.

:) Thanks Carl, your post was helpful. Yes he was there when the warrant was served, as far as I know the complaint that was made by the neighbor was actually one of several calls made over a period of about 2 to 2 1/2 weeks. Every time the guy with the leaky car was around she (the neighbor) would call amd complain about the "traffic". As for panzertanker, you can call anything you like, it sounds like your talking from personal expeience. Sorry about your luck. :p

Yup. I make personal choices that cause me to :
1. get my apartment RAIDED
2. get my girlfriend locked up in jail
3. get my driver's license confiscated
4. have neighbors call the police b/c of the "traffic" at my house (pun intended)
5. have friends who cannot spell or type (just like you!)

Even carl agrees with me...

Guess you just have a loser friend and he has a skank drug addict girlfriend....yup, my life is SOOO terrible compared to you guys.....

I would ask if you have seen the effects of these types of drugs (amphetamines and methamphetamines) up close and the devastation they can cause....but I know you have. You know people who are using them! The difference is that I have treated them, not enabled them.

Are you concerned because your connection has vaporized or the police may now have evidence with a reference to YOUR name somewhere?

BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING

I dont get you people. I post a question and what I get back is a bunch of insults. Why do you bother even answering if you are so offended by the people who post their questions on here? I was called childish by one of you, well I guess that I am in good company here.
You all have the attitude that you are better than some pee on thats posting a question on here. I'd like to know what it is that would make you think that. So I guess...........whatever.

From what I can gather, they took the computer to see if any illegal activity can be proven from any records/emails on it.

They took the security cameras because if the police come back, they won't be detected as easily. (BTW, I used to have security cameras at my house after one burglary, one stolen car, and one vehicle that was burglarized - and I live in one of the better areas of our city.)

They took his money, because if they find any illegal activity that can be traced to him from anything on the computer, they already have the money they will say he made from the illegal activity, and won't have to try to get it from him later.

And Op already knows these answers, nanaII. She is just fishing here, seeking justification for friends who have made bad choices.

If you choose your friends who are mixed up in illegal activity, then this is the consequence you suffer. No one wanted to attack you, you came here and posted only the facts that YOU wanted to, that make the situation seem not so bad.
Police do not get warrants for "a few cars" coming and going just b/c a neighbor calls the police and complains of the spilled oil in the driveway...

You KNOW the reason why a warrant was sworn out, there was plausible proof of illegal activity going on at the residence. That is one of the MAIN reasons everyone attacks you. You are acting childish by not admitting to the facts.

How do I know this? B/C when the police raided the apartment they found.......OH NO!....DRUGS! And CASH! Seems like there WAS a basis of facts for the warrant, don't you think???
