We terminated our one year lease with a 30-day notice. We were told that we were responsible for the rent until they could rent out our apartment or until Septmeber, when our lease was up. We moved out April 30 and paid the May rent on May 1st. They were able to rent our apartment on May 5th, and we were told we would get a "prorated rent" refund with our security deposit. We received our security deposit on June 3, but no refund. We called and were told it was a mistake and it would be sent immediately. When no check came, we continued to call and each time were told that the check was being cut and was on it's way. Now it is June 23 and I called today and they said the check had not been mailed yet and they would do it ASAP. I am sick of hearing the same thing!!! My question is, is there a law that would apply to this similar to the law that states that the security deposit must be returned to you within 30 days of move out? thanks! What is the name of your state?

No. However, I bet they will get their act together when you do... and send them a WRITTEN "demand" (certified RRR) for your refund within 10 days or you will pursue legal action.
