What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? NC

My mother in law's estate is being handled by a public administrator. The executor was removed for misconduct in Dec 2009 (co-mingled estate funds with his personal acct, among other things) - the public administrator does not answer any questions regarding the status of the estate, recovery of assests, or any other questions regarding the estate. Is this normal? and how long should a P.A. take to close an estate?

the executor and or his relatives removed assests from the property during his life tenant and over thwe weekend following his death before the remainder men found out he had died - recovery of those assests is unknown, stolen jewelry, money, family heirlooms all missing and no response from the P.A.

what should we do?

The PA will make sure administration is done before the assets are burned up by fees. I don't believe there are any timeline requirements.

is the lack of communication standard for a PA? Who can we complain to in order to get some action response out of the PA?
