What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?

Hi,
a public company is using photocopies - images of one of my book (with copyright) in your web page. They have also hung below these photocopies (images of my book) their ownership of copyright and the prohibition to reproduce the images.
I have not authorized to use my work.
Is this legal?
Thanks.

have you licensed your book to anybody?

Without knowing how they are using the excerpts, you might want to review fair use of copyrighted material:

http://www.copyright.gov/fls/fl102.html

If neither of the above apply, it would be likely it is illegal use of your book.

Generally the answer would be no, unless there an exception applies. Copyright holders retain the sole right to reproduce, sell, and distribute their work. Others can't do this unless they get permission first. However, under the fair use doctrine, it could be okay to use a small excerpt of copyrighted work for non-commercial reasons.
