What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Texas, but also working in Illinois and Missouri. I'm doing research that will require photos of children's faces. I will be measuring faces and asking panelists to evaluate the faces on the basis of facial attractiveness. I have been told that I will likely not get parental consent. Is it legal to use photos posted on the internet on such sites as those offering scholarships for the "cutest" child submitted for a particular month? What are the legal issues covering the use of photos that have been posted by parents on the internet? Alternatively where else can I look for additional information (i.e. journals that cover this type of law)? What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?

Why not ask adults to give you photos of themselves as children? It would accomplish your objective of obtaining photos of kids and consent without making people uneasy about the use of their children's images.
