As far as I am concerned repair shops are out to get you one way or another. There are few that are I would consider to be honest. Its all about making money!

It's your fault you didn't bring a mechanic with you to check out the car before you purchased it if you didn't want to take the time to thoroughly check over the car yourself. You bought it as-is so suck it up and learn from the experience.
