What is the name of your state? MA

Hi there. :)

Last December (2004) I purchased a forum software program with a licence, on line from a company who at the time had a contract with the "main forum owners" to sell such licences. There was two options, the first being a one year licence, the second being a lifetime licence. With both licences the idea was that there'd be free upgrades of the forum software whenever they were released, I opted for the lifetime licence.

About a week ago I heard that there had been a forum software upgrade, so I emailed to the company who I had purchased the licence from, asking for a copy of the upgrade. The reply I received from them stated that they no longer sell these forum software licences, but they would try to get one from the "main forum owners". After hearing nothing for a day or two, I wrote back asking if there was any news regarding to all this. The reply was that the company couldn't get me the licence, but being as I was a valued customer, they offered to buy a one years licence for me.

A one year licence costs $69.95, a lifetime licence costs $185. After reading the offer given to me, I realized that I haven't even used the full value of what a one year licence costs, in other words I haven't had the licence for a full year, despite that time getting very close. I also feel that the fact this company doesn't offer/sell these forum software licences anymore, this was their choice and not mine.

The way I see this, rather than offering a one year licence to me, the company should at the most/least, have me pay the $69.95 for using "their" licence this past year, and they should offer to pay the difference for a lifetime licence.

Even the above doesn't seem fair to me, simply because it was not my decision to stop selling the lcences.

Any advice on what I could possibly do about this, would be muchly appreciated. :)

If you bought a lifetime license and now can only get an annual license, yes they owe you the difference in price between the two.

My apologies for taking so long in replying, but I'd just like to let you know that after a lot of emails sent and received, it now looks very much like the company that I purchased the software from, had agreed to pay in full for the latest software set up. :)
