What is the name of your state? VA

For a friend who has no computer:

I had bad credit from divorce at the time I had enough money to purchase a home. My boyfriend put the home in his name, and I footed the bill. We both want the home in both our names, as we are not married and have no plans to (my first one left a bad taste in mouth. If anything should happen to him, he knows his family would contest my ownership even though we have a notarized letter stating my claims to house. Can my name be added to the deed and/or morgage, and would that be enough protection for either one of us should anything happen?

Yes, your name can be added to the deed. If you currently have a mortgage, it may have a clause that says if there is a conveyance of the property, that the mortgage becomes due and payable in full. Ask your lender if that is true.

If it is true, then you both should refinance.

You currently have no protection. YOU need to get a real estate attorney who will represent YOUR interests or you may lose everything.
